I know exactly what you’re talking about and there’s definitely this certain type of my-first-year-as Medium articles out here which absolutely influenced the way I wrote this post. However, I’m also convinced that many people who tell their first-year stories are indeed telling them for themselves, to get their experience out of their system and to reflect on the progress they made. If others can learn from it, then that’s a positive side-effect. Reading collections of these articles helped me out a lot at the beginning of my career in development.
